If you’ve ever wished you could read tarot but the thought of learning the symbols and meanings of 78 cards left you feeling overwhelmed and defeated before you even picked up a deck, I get it.
Tarot can feel like a lot. Any good tarot reader will tell you that it can take years, a lifetime really, to understand tarot at the deepest level. But, truly, that’s because it’s the symbols and stories of humanity itself…an unlimited and endless array of paths, people, places, and situations are shown at any given moment when we turn the cards over.
But please, dear seeker, do NOT let that stop you! It’s 100% possible to learn the basics and beyond in a very short period of time. You can literally go from zero to reading for yourself and others by just buying a deck and trusting yourself and your intuition (and maybe a little help from the tiny book that comes with it).
You can also just buy a deck of cards that has meanings written right on each card. Although, to be honest, I don’t always agree on those meanings, and you probably won’t either once you’re more comfortable and familiar with each the full deck.
So, if you want a little push in the right direction, towards become a tarot reader, for yourself or for others, here are my top 3 reasons why you should go for it!
#1. Connection
- Connect with Yourself. You learn to connect with yourself on a deeper level. Instead of looking outside yourself, you’ll begin to allow yourself to hear your own guidance (and that of your guides, ancestors, and Spirit). It’s calming and centering to hear and feel your personal truth.
- Connect to Source. There’s more to life than what’s right in front of us. You, me, the past, present, and future, the things you want, the people in your life, and those not yet in your life–it’s all a part of the connected web of energy that is life. The information you want is all around you and passing through you. It’s all connected. Tarot helps us tap into that flow of Universal energy and information.
- Connect with Others. Maybe you can imagine yourself reading tarot cards for others but you’re just not sure if you could do it? I’m going to let you in on a little secret, you CAN. I know for a fact that even if you think you’re not psychic, you can read tarot cards. You have to trust me when I tell you that you are psychic enough. You would not be interested nor reading this blog post if you didn’t already have the potential to read the cards & blow your own damn mind! Reading for others takes a little practice to be good at it, but the payoff is astounding–things come to light that you’d never be able to guess & if you want to make a career out of it, that’s entirely possible too. Read on.
#2. Career
- Create a Job for Yourself. For far too long, tarot readers have been thought of as the fringe, the outsiders, & maybe a little shady. Either that or it’s a teenage party game for sleepovers and coffee shop dates with friends. While it’s true that tarot is not accepted by some groups of people, such as ultra-right wing evangelical Christians (in my experience), it’s also true that tarot is becoming a widely accepted and even respected tool to turn to for spiritual guidance and personal development. Can you make a career out of it, OH YES! There’s plenty of proof of successful, respected, and highly paid tarot professionals in the world today. Bridget Esselmont of Biddy Tarot, Clementine Chloe of Big Empress Energy, are the first two that come to my mind, but there are so many more.
- Be of Service. Be a light in a dark moment and help others see their strengths and inherent worth. We all go through tough times. We all need someone who can remind us of our light now and then. When you get to be that for someone who’s going through it, that is purpose. That is a reason to get up in the morning. That is why you’ll keep going strong even when some others may doubt you. It feels amazing to be of service and help others.
- Work Your Way. Work from home, on your own schedule, and actually earn a good living. Can you be a broke-ass tarot reader, sure. Can you become wealthy reading tarot? I think you can. I also know from personal experience that you can earn $100 an hour, or more, doing something you actually enjoy, while helping others. Like other consulting careers, it takes skills, a good business foundation, and systems for things like client leads, payment processing, and passive income streams. You get to decide what you want your business and life to look like instead of working for someone else’s dream life.
#3. Freedom
- Freedom from Worries. There will always be challenges in life, because overcoming them is kind of the point, it’s about growth. But, if you find a way to have faith that what you’re working towards is coming, you can let go of the stress and focus on what you’ve got to do. That is huge. That is what I’ve gotten from tarot cards for the past 35+ years. I wish this kind of freedom for everyone. (Side Note: Tarot cards foretold my future husband in 1999, when I was single and sad, and allowed me to focus on building myself up and creating a life I was very happy with in the meantime.)
- Freedom from a Job You Hate. I know, consulting is not for everyone, but it might be for you (although you may not know it yet). You can learn tarot on the side and build slowly or you can throw yourself into it full steam ahead and see where you can take it fast, it’s all up to you. If you believe that it’s not possible for you, then it’s not. However, if you’re willing to accept that tarot is a learnable skill and you are capable of creating a business based on it, then you can do it. You can escape the rat race. You can carve your own niche like softly flowing water if you’re willing to do the work.
- Freedom to Be Yourself. Yes, it’s possible to hide in the tarot closet if you want, never letting family and friends know that you have a spiritual side that may not fit their ideas of spirituality. That’s fear holding you back. You could instead decide to embrace your badass self and stand proud along side of others, the woo-woo, the witchy, the light workers, mediums and energy sensitive people who know what it’s like to take a stand for something not everyone understands. But there’s also the subconscious/psychology approach. Tarot was practiced and used successfully with many patients by famed psychiatrist Carl Jung who also happened to be the son of a Protestant minister.Tarot is for everyone, regardless of how they identify, how they worship, what socioeconomic class they come from, and from any background. There are as many ways to approach tarot as there are people. Don’t limit yourself because of fear.
If you’ve been thinking about learning tarot or going deeper into card meanings and how they apply to real life, the class you’ve been looking for is coming soon!
